Community Services

Here at West Cornwall Women’s Aid, we have a dedicated Community Services team who deliver a range of support and information services for women and children who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual violence; current or previously. Our services are run ‘by women for women.’

We have our own community building in central Penzance called Maura Place.  Women and children can come to Maura Place or can be met in a safe place in the community.

We aim for our services to be trauma informed which means we promote a culture of safety, empowerment and healing. All of our staff are trained to understand the ways that the trauma of abuse can impact women and children, in the short and long term.

This is for any woman affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence present or past. Helpline hours are 10.00 - 15.00 Monday - Friday but we also have a 24-hour voicemail. Our specialist team of female staff and volunteers are experienced and specifically trained to understand domestic abuse and/or sexual violence and the impact it has on you and your children. Whether you need help, advice or simply want someone to talk to, we'll listen, understand and help you find a way through. If you want to leave your abuser, we can assist you to find safer accommodation for you and your children. This can either be in a refuge or another safe place.

Sometimes our line maybe busy and your call might be taken by our answer machine. This means that we are dealing with other calls so please do leave us a message and we will always call you back as long as you leave us a safe contact number in your message. When we call back, our number will show up as withheld. This is for safety reasons. You can also contact us using our contact form on this website.

Our team of trained female support workers can provide different types of support depending on what you need. Outreach is community based, this means you can either come to Maura Place or we can meet you at a safe place in the community. Outreach offers confidential, emotional and practical support.

We deliver a range of therapeutic, social and activity groups which change regularly. For more information about the groups, we have on offer please contact the helpline, have a look on our website or Facebook page.

We have a Wellbeing Programme. This programme includes both telephone and one-to-one in person support, as well as group activities giving you the opportunity to connect with others, learn new skills and have fun.

When you ring the Helpline one of the questions you will be asked is whether you would like to opt into our Wellbeing Newsletter. By doing so you will hear about new opportunities, groups and activities as they arise.

In the meantime, you might like to visit our Wellbeing page for more information.
